Celebrations and festivals of Kyrgyzstan
Nooruz (Islamic New Year) is celebrated every year on 21st of March. In honor of this holiday people sew or buy new clothes. On the eve the residents of the city prepare sumalyak - a dish of wheat. There is a tradition, if at the time of cooking to make a wish, it will come true. In Bishkek folk festivals are completed with the game "Ulak tartysh". Entertainment events are held in every town and village. Nooruz holiday is celebrated around the world in Muslim countries, and to take part in it - it's a great honor for everyone.
Uilonu u toy (wedding feast). Before the wedding, the parents of newlyweds prepare them clothes. Traditionally, the bride's relatives mourn the departure of a girl singing koshok (a song in honor of the girl's departure). Then the girl's relatives see off the bride to the groom's house, where the main feast begins.
Zhentek toy (Feast of birth). Yong parents treat neighbors with delicacies, showing their joy. The most revered guests are treated with sary may – home made ghee. The stomach of specially slaughtered lamb or calf is used for that, "sary may" is stored there. First oil is put into the child's mouth, ending the most senior member of the family. In honor of the newborn the guests bring baby clothes, animals, food, and shyrdak (felt carpet).
Beshik toy (Feast of the cradle) - a holiday dedicated to the first day of the baby in the cradle. Beshik is a wooden cradle for children. According to custom, the child is put in the cradle by an old woman singing “ keep the host of the cradle". Usually cradle is made of two wooden arches with two holes. Amulets of various animals and birds protect the children from evil spirits, sewn to the cradle or a child's clothing. All traditions in honor of the newborn suggest that the main concern of the Kyrgyz families is considered the preservation and multiplication of posterity.
